 Principal's Message

 

Dear Parents and Families,
 
Thank you for your interest in our College. We truly hope we can assist you in finding the right school for your child or children.
 
Our vision statement shows the intention of our College:
 
“Araluen Christian College partners with families in guiding each child's journey of living and learning, providing hope, in Christ, for their future.”
 
We partner with families by providing a safe and nurturing Christian, community environment which reflects the values of the home. We focus on caring relationships and excellent diverse academic experiences. We are a non-denominational College accepting families from all walks of life.
 
Araluen Christian College has a strong emphasis on meeting the individual needs of our students. Because we are reasonably small in numbers, we know our students well.
 
Our College currently has approximately 215 students from Transition to Year 9.  Our classes have upper limits of Transition – 25 students and Years 1 to 9 – 28 students to a class.  We have one class at every year level.  Our primary aged students are educated inTransition and Years 1-6.  We also cater for the Middle School Years 7,8 & 9. 
 
We currently have waiting lists for some classes please contact the college for details and an enrolment pack.
 
To enter Transition, students need to have celebrated their 5th birthday by 30 June of the year they are commencing school. 
 
All classes are straight Year level classes.  We have buddy programs operating across the College allowing students the opportunity to work and interact with students in different classes.
 

We have new Middle School facilities in a dedicated MS area.  These include our science lab and wide open spaces for outdoor learning.  The distinctively shared zone between the Middle School and Primary areas is where you will find our library that includes a beautifully appointed parents corner. We welcome families to share our spaces and the couches and coffee in the parent corner are a popular venue.

Our primary classrooms are situated around a large undercover area.  There is a dedicated outdoor learning area for our students in Transition to Year 3. The oval and hardcourt playing areas are not only well utlised during school hours.  We welcome the local Alice Springs community to share the facilities we are blessed to have and use.

Technology is high on our agenda. From Year 6 our students have access to 1 to 1 laptops for use daily in all curriculum areas. We have laptops and ipads available for our primary classes who use these throughout the week. The use of interactive white boards and apple tvs enhances our existing resources. 

 Our classes promote group learning skills, and the individualisation of learning.  In the important areas of literacy and numeracy we have a focus on students’ individual needs through regular assessment which informs our learning programs and activities.
 
A perceptual motor program helps with the development of coordination and physical skills in the early years, while daily fitness and sporting opportunities encourage skill development and team work in older students. Students from Year 5 onwards take part in many inter-school sporting opportunities.
 
The College also runs an  After-School homework club for Middle School students each week. We are about to begin our partnership with Camp Australia who will provide After School Care on the Araluen Christian College site.
